Open Source AI Engineering Intern

Spyxpo is looking for passionate and motivated Open Source AI Engineering Interns to join our AI Engineering team. As an intern, you will contribute to the development of cutting-edge open-source artificial intelligence technologies while collaborating with engineers, researchers, and contributors from the open-source community.

You will gain hands-on experience building scalable AI systems, developing machine learning infrastructure, improving software tooling, and contributing to production-quality codebases. This internship provides an opportunity to work across multiple domains of AI engineering, software development, and open-source collaboration while learning industry-standard engineering practices.

In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of open-source AI technologies and supporting software systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional contributors to implement new features, optimize existing systems, improve developer tooling, and help maintain high-quality engineering standards.

You will participate in real-world software engineering workflows, including version control, code reviews, documentation, testing, debugging, and collaborative development, while gaining practical experience working on modern artificial intelligence technologies.

• Contribute to open-source AI software and engineering projects.
• Assist in developing and improving AI models, training pipelines, and supporting infrastructure.
• Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and developer tools.
• Contribute to frontend interfaces and user experiences where applicable.
• Develop clean, modular, and maintainable software components.
• Debug, test, optimize, and improve system performance.
• Write technical documentation and project updates.
• Participate in GitHub workflows, code reviews, and technical discussions.
• Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and designers on new features.
• Follow software engineering, security, and coding best practices.
• Research and experiment with modern AI architectures, frameworks, and development tools.
• Support the growth of Spyxpo’s open-source ecosystem through meaningful contributions.

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of Python programming.
• Familiarity with Git and GitHub.
• Basic understanding of software engineering principles.
• Interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, or deep learning.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Passion for open-source software, innovation, and continuous learning.
• Academic projects, hackathons, research, internships, or personal software projects are preferred but not mandatory.
